Malibu Creek
Suicide is painless..
June 3, 2003
Since Russ travels a lot for work, we need to find some local rides we could do together. We live right next to JPL/Brown Mountain and Arroyo Seco, but it was nice to get out to the Santa Monica Mountains. Here we hit the "M*A*S*H Trail," Malibu Creek.
This is definitely one of the prettiest trails I've ridden. It's hard to believe you're in Los Angeles county, but it makes L.A. livable, and even (this is hard to admit) livable.
There's one really big hill to climb. On the way back is nice, but for me, it's definitely a bit of a grind up. Russ is a natural climber, and even if nice enough to let me photograph him cranking it up.
After quite a few rocks to ride through (and walk through), we found the M*A*S*H site. Russ wasn't that amused at first, but after looking at the overall site, he remembered this is where they always seem to get ambushed.
Never one to really watch the show, I put my foot in my mouth and said,
"So this is what Vietnam looks like?"
"No, Korea. M*A*S*H was supposed to take place during the Korean War."
Oops. :-)
We tried to go around the hill instead of back over it, and we took a side trail to the lake. In the lake, there was a very social goose. It acted a lot like Charlie.
I've never seen a duck beg for food by making cute faces at people.
You also don't usually see a pair of shades on a tree either.
Ahh, the joys of riding singletrack. :-)
Even a fun little downhill on the way back for a great photo op (even with 100 speed film).
Route taken:Crags Rd. out and back, with an couple of off-shoots on the way back.
